Artist statement - Cupcakes

Class of 2024
For the 2023 Spring Art Show I decided to make cupcakes, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I had improved from ceramics 1 last year. The process of making these cupcakes took a lot of planning, time and effort. First I had to expand my knowledge on slip and work out how I could possibly use it for the icing on my cupcakes. After sketching and planning the details of each cupcake, I had to throw the base of the cupcakes. After having to throw many cupcake bases, I finally found a perfect cupcake size. I then added a cap for all the 5 cupcakes and the icing. The reason behind why I wanted to make cupcakes for the art show is to talk about my journey with my mental health. When I was young, I struggled with trying to cope with my mental health. That was until I found baking. Baking has helped me with my mental health because it made me realize that making mistakes is okay and that you can try again. Even if you can't try again, time passes by anyway. In general I just wanted to spread this message to my audience and let them know that it is ok to make mistakes. For my future in ceramics I plan on taking it yet another year to help improve my art skills and see what I can do.
